Duke Riley presents Paul Piers for Chanel at White Box

Went to another opening tonight at White Box in Chelesa.  I’m finding many of the galleries I’m looking at are Non-Profits, artists collectives, things like that.   I’m not even sure there’s a dealer running these galleries.

I think of White Box as a place where artists can create their own world – like the NY WATER ROOM that’s coming in November (Annie Ratti will transform White Box into a pool, reflecting, through a series of multimedia effects, the social complexity of Urban Life on the waterfront.) to be an interesting place to attend an opening.

Also, next March a show is planned called IMPULSE, curated by the original IMPULSE Magazine editior Eldon Garnet, that looks back to one of the most influntial magazines of Art and Culture in North America.  Original issues as well as 200 commisioned works will be exhibited.

This is all interesting but what I’m more struck by is how Artists and Art Galleries are becoming Tax Deductable Foundations.   Here’s an article I found about about this:

It was kinda crowded and warm – there was free Rum, free Beer and lots of people hanging out – I watched people for a couple of minutes and then left.
