[...] Someone I spoke to last night asked me if Peter Saul has an “oral” fixation - since most of the imagry of his work revolves around the mouth. Perhaps. I had not really looked at it that way..but why not? Also, “sentimental” is a term that Joe Coleman used to describe his painting - he had the same concern that people labeled Coleman’s work “sentimental” - read the interviews here.
[...] There’s more, but I can’t fit it into one post. Anyway - I feel this work has a “sound” much like what Fred Stonehouse mentioned he’s after. Also, was thinking about Joe Coleman, with the passivity he uses to let ideas flow into his head - and that’s what he paints. [...]

Hello Marshall!

I am so glad that you went to see Joe Coleman speak and got to meet him and see his work in person. I wish I could have been there, but I wasn't, so it's very nice to read your review of the event.

This website has a quote from Joe Coleman that is very interesting:

"Most of my paintings are owned by private collectors. HR Giger has some on display in his swiss castle, which is open to the public. When I do exhibitions of the paintings, they have to be borrowed from the collectors. I also do one or two new ones for the gallery to sell. The rest of the time I sell my paintings myself. People can put down a deposit and be on a waiting list to get one."
