Does anyone need an “Art Advisor”? Gumshoe

A friend of mine tipped me off to Gumshoe, a couple of  Art Advisers that will take someone, or a group, on a custom tour of Art Galleries in NYC for a fee.  My friend asked me if I knew anything about Gumshoe - I don’t.  Neither did she.

Who’d be the target audience for a service like that?  I’m not pro or con having personal Art Advisers; Art Guides, if you will.   How much value do they add?  Is an Art Adviser really that helpful for someone that already knows the art scene in NYC?  I don’t know.

Unless Gumshoe can get me in to the meet the actual artists - like the MOMA opening they attended for Brice Marden last month … I’m not sure they add any value to me.

There’s many artists I’d like to personally interview, like Peter Saul and Brice Marden, if Gumshoe actually make the connections - or took me to see something I’d not have access to any other way…..yes, it might be worth paying them for that.

The Brice Marden opening at MOMA- I wrote about Marden’s show last week, Gumshoe did not mention meeting Marden (I don’t know if he was attending or not).  Would I have gotten anything much more than if I’d gone myself..probably not.

The ton of galleries openings - all of them are listed in Artcards.cc - so anyone can find out what shows are happening and the hottest one’s without an Art Advisor.

I’m happy to talk with Gumshoe - perhaps they’ll take me on a tour and show me what they do, and if they do that …I’ll write it up here.

  1. […] I’m meeting with Liz Dimmitt of Gumshoe Media this week; we’ve been trying to meet since last November when I first wrote about Gumshoe.  […]
