Hi Marshall,

I'm sorry you were disappointed with your experience at Eyebeam, but we hope you'll come again. And while I can appreciate your comments, I'd like to clarify that the LAB MAG launch wasn't an exhibition and it wasn't Eyebeam programming.

Many people get confused walking into Eyebeam when they don't always see a big, glossy, white-box, Chelsea-style exhibition. But Eyebeam is more than a gallery. We're a non-profit art & technology center that supports artists and the creation of new work. Eyebeam conducts artists' residencies, fellowships and commissions in our three lab environments: Production, Research & Development and Education. We do have exhibitions (largely of work produced by artists here) but we're very interested in the production that goes on here and inviting the public to join in on that process through classes, workshops, talks, performances, online projects, public interventions and much more. And this occasionally includes hosting outside events from like-minded organizations such as the group who founded LAB MAG and the upcoming party celebrating Creative Commons 4th birthday.

While we understand if you didn't have an immediate emotional response to the LAB MAG launch, it wasn't intended to be a big, pretty exhibition that would immediately tug at your heartstrings. It was a reception to celebrate the launch of this new project, a PDF publication collecting the work of artists, designers and writers, with a number of innovative artists discussing their work and contributions to LAB MAG. While it might not have made for great pictures, it was pretty interesting event.

We hope next time you come by Eyebeam we have something more visually engaging for you to enjoy and that you have the chance to spend a little time and hopefully participate in the dialogue and process that goes on here.

Thanks,
Perry Lowe
