Scott Draves’s Art, better known as Spot

I had dinner tonight with Scott Draves, better known as Spot, and wrote up most of my interview in Webmetricsguru.com which took place in Chelsea.

I wanted to talk with Spot more about his art, and find out what inspires him to create his Electric Paintings - which are refinements on what started out as ElectricSheep.org screensaver.

Spot views the work he’s doing with hifidreams.com as a form of artificial intelligence, helping to bring it to life and he’s selling his more ambitious work in order to fund the development of his art and art form.

There’s an element of visual layering and genetic sequencing in the Electric Sheep online screensaver.  I’m too exhausted to write more tonight and if I can make out my scribbled notes, I’ll pick up where I’m leaving off now in a day or two with another post on tonight’s interview with Spot (Scott Draves).

Art HandKnit Accessories in Brooklyn by AWildBeast - Etsy.com

Seth Godin wrote about Etsy in a post called “Raveling“ several months back - how artists could bypass dealers.

“…I was trying to figure out Etsy, sorting the paintings by “times viewed” and was completely stunned by the fact that some paintings have 500 times as many views as others. And not because of the price, or, apparently, any obvious difference in quality.”

I have a friend on Etsy, nicknamed “AWildBeast”, who’s done the same thing.  Since yesterday, she’s already sold some work.

Tranzducer at LUMURplex

I’ve been meaning to get over to the LumurPlex which is located a couple of blocks from my studio, but every time I go by LumurPlex, no one is there or a class is going on and you can’t really interrupt it.

Well now, I, and anyone else who’s interested, next Friday, January 26th, 2007, between 8:00 - 11:00 PM, can attend TRANZDUCER; I’ll be there.  Here’s the info:

“…LEMURplex, the Brooklyn complex featuring the latest in revolutionary cutting-edge music, technology and electronic art will convert its robot shop into an over-sized living-room to present a new series of performance and interactive gallery events starting later this month. The series, “Tranzducer,” will be held every month beginning with the inaugural show on Friday, January 26th.

The inaugural performance will feature Tranzducer curators Jamie Allen and Tristan Perich as well as musician Joshua Fried. Jamie will be doing live audio circuit construction, electronic music laid bare and musical experimentation at its most vital. Loud Objects, with Tristan Perich, Kunal Gupta, Katie Shima, will feature a a performance of overhead projectors and audio electronics for the masses. Joshua Fried will present his solo musical act Radio Wonderland, a high-concept, performative, theatrical remixing of live commercial FM radio captured during the show.

In addition to live performances, the Tranzducer series will present an array of installations chosen by curators as the best in interactive sound, video and robotic art. Featured installations at the inaugural show including new work from LEMUR, Eric Singer, Leif Krinkle, Rocio Barcia and others. Attendees will be able to play and interact with these works throughout the evening.”

Seems like a lot of stuff going on in the next two weeks for me.  I’ll be at the next meeting of NYMIEG on Thursday morning in Manhattan, near work.  On Friday, I’ll be at this event at the LumurPlex and next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, I’ll be attending the AlwaysONNYC, also in Manhattan.  Plus, there’s a PodCasting Meetup on Wendesday night, Jan 31st.

And I’m going to try to get some painting done too!  Maybe I’ll even plan ahead, so I’ll get more done than showing up with no specific goals (other than to paint).
