My “Is Google God?” painting

I got over to the studio later on this evening – I wasn’t feeling well today but dragged myself over there after running some errands in Park Slope.  Once I got to work – it was 4 or 5 hours of non-stop painting – and as promised - I created my first version of “Is Google God?” study / painting.

Is Google God? by Marshall Sponder 3-24-2007

Painting: Is Google God?  Marshall Sponder – 3-24-2007  Oil Pastel / Pastel on Paper, 22 x 28″

A couple of things I added – the references to “Top 10″, that’s obviously a reference to the obsession to get be within the Top 10 Search Results.    Also, the long black “line” or “snake” is actually “The Long Tail” of Search.

I’m really linking how I treated my “Thumb” with 3 patches of color next to each other (Red, Blue and Peach).   Feels great to be able both to imagine and execute on my ideas – I never used to have, years ago, as much freedom to “go all the way” as I do now.  I want to push my paintings as far as I can go.   Adding “The Long Tail” might have made the painting busier – but I got the intuition, last minute, to add it – it made sense to me The Long Tail (as a concept and image) ought to be depicted here.

I’ll probably do a larger acrylic painting, or series of paintings around this theme soon.

We’ll see.
