Fashion Photography Click Chic: The Fine Art of Fashion Photography at Visual Arts Museum

Fashion Photography is hot, and, according to Fashion.NET “…a career in fashion photography doesn’t have to be an impossible dream.”

Wikipedia defines Fashion Photography as the domain of well known contemporary Fashion Photographers like Mario Testino, Steven Meisel, Patrick Demarchelier, Michael Thompson and Mario Sorrenti.

Meanwhile, I found a pretty good Fashion Photography blog called foto decadent; I was just looking at the photo of Catherine Deneuve and found she looks pretty good for someone that’s been around for a long time.

Anyway, I digress too much.  My real point is that I went to a Fashion Photography exhibition called Click Chic over at the School of Visual Arts briefly (last night to see the exhibition) of fashion photos, one that is quite good – the rest, quite forgettable.

Yes, only one of the fashion photos was really good enough, textually and with color, to satisfy me as a painting would…or sorta do that.

Of all the work I saw, this portrait of a woman, below, I really wanted to keep on looking at, and looking, and looking - with most of the other fashion photos at the fashion photography exhibition, I took one look, and felt I’d seen it and never need look again.

To me, this fashion photography photo by Maki Kawakita was extremely satisfying in every way (the print had a resolution of definition that was much better, crisper, than the image you see above) … I only wish I could say the same for the rest of the show at the Visual Arts Museum.

  1. Maki’s work is great as you described in your article, but somehow I think Chiun Kai’s images have more artistic depth into the fine art fashion photography, because there is a senss of danger, adventure, it’s all very exciting I must say, I saw the show on the day it’s coming down, I personally think Chiun Kai will go very far in this industry, his sensibilities and creative vision is very unique for anything I’ve seen so far, rest are all just fashion images, Chiun Kai’s images are like a fashion music video, very interesting! Hope to see more of his work around town soon.

    New fan.
