More drawings and some new developments

Last week I was at Blogger Social 08 that really was a mixed bag – some of it was great and yet sometimes, hanging out with so many bloggers made me feel a little self conscious – and last Saturday, I went over to the Metropolitan, late in the afternoon and sketched in the sculpture court these two drawings, which fulfilled a desire I’ve had for some time, to draw the sculptures there – I’ve had this desire for several years but just never got around to it.

And I poured my heart out into my drawings – and this is what I did:

Drawing from Sculpure during Blogger Social 08

I’ve been wanting to put this drawing up all week – in a way, my drawings are the most personal part of me – I put my entire soul into them and feels as if my life, for that moment, is being captured on paper. I try to carry my sketches where I can and when I have a time, draw.

I also did this drawing from a standing sculpture of Peruses, I think, it’s one with the head of a gorgon being held, but I’m not sure – I really don’t care about the names that much – that was for a bygone age – ours is much different.

People ask me why I don’t show my work more – or at all. Why should I? I could just place them on my blogs and get them seen by thousands of people within a short time which having to do anything much.

I did submit the last 3 self portraits to a group show to see if one of them will be accepted, but that means I’d have to frame them (they’re oil pastels, after all) and my work, is primarily for me – let’s get that clear. I priced them all very high – because I don’t really want to sell anything – but if I did, if someone really did want to buy them, I can’t price them so impossibly high that no one could afford them – so I put them in a couple thousand dollar range.

But, like I’ve said in this blog before – I really don’t think artists should try to sell anything – do it because you want to – if others really want it – they’ll approach you.

The purpose of Art is for Self Development, it’s not commercial.
