Governor’s Island and the FIGMENT Art Festival
I went over to Governor’s Island today for a couple of Art Festivals that are going on now including FIGMENT08, which turned out to be a mixed bag – it was crowded and hot – but I’m not sorry I went – I was looking for footage, and got some, a lot – I tried to put the best of it in this movie (below):
It seems to me Governor’s Island could have had a lot more done with it than being a way station – I walked around the area of the island that’s open to visitors and found that I wished I came there at another time, perhaps later in the day – when it wasn’t so crowded.
There’s also a Waterfall set up, similar to the one at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, and I was very close to it (Waterfalls Are Very Turned On: Governors Island Revealed) and there’s footage of all of that in the movie.
After I got off the island (I was glad to go) I went and had dinner in the Financial District, and it poured quite a lot – I sketched a little, as I watched the rain attack the buildings while eating strawberries and cream, sipping my wine, drinking cappuccino – I was just glad to be inside and not trying to walk anywhere.
Tired. In fact, the reason I went to Governor’s Island was recreational, and to take footage to put up here – but I wish I went to Metropolitan or Brooklyn Museum, instead.
View the online video I put up and see what you think – was it worth going?
