Saturday’s Studies
Spent 5 hours painting today - the model originally scheduled did not show up so one of the artists decided to pose. I did a drawing first (see below)
Followed by a Pastel/Oil Pastel
The Woman who posed had an interesting story to tell about what her life was when she was younger - a lot younger - she was quite wild and rebellious and worked in all kinds of businesses.Â
Interesting story …. Said I would find a way to put those feelings in the painting.
In my mind I was hearing this saying…”making color do something no one has seen before … now..that’s interesting”.   Actually, the saying goes back to the Op Art Panel discussion from last week at Pratt.
I’m not thinking of myself as a finished artist …. in fact, while I care if my work gets shown beyond what I’m doing here at ArtNewYorkCity, it’s OK if it doesn’t. I feel I have nothing to lose by just letting go and seeing how far I can go both in my life and in paintings. I want to push color beyond what I’ve done with it in the past, if my paintings works, they speak for themselves.
The final work for today is below …. A still life I spent an hour on but might look better in my photo than anything else I’ve done today.

I have painted this plant a couple of times recently - this time I thought of Bonnard and went for the overall shape and let color to most of the heavy lifting.Â
