SirenToo

Painted some more today and looked at SireN of Jellousy, which I liked.

So, I got frustrated, painting on paper, running out of certain oil pastel colors, I used acrylics freely and then discovered something totally unexpected.

It’s quite possible I can combine acrylics and oil pastels, by using acrylics first, broadly, then going over, with oil pastels, or oil paint.

Wow!

Artsy map of the Internet

Having fun with this map – but let’s not get cought up in the IRC Isles or, for god sake, stuck in the Ocean of SubCulture.  Ha, ha.

Good take on the Web, and done, creatively, I might add.

Right Brained Art is More Lucrative – and the Future of Art

At least, it seems that way – in Transforming Art Into a More Lucrative Career Choice

Also, a book by Daniel H. Pink which I’ll pick up – A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future seems to almost be the “textbook” on how to get there – to making Art Into a More Lucrative Career Choice

Art schools, too, are starting to step in. At the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla., students can now major or minor in a program called “The Business of Art and Design.”

Larry Thompson, the school’s dean, said he was inspired to create the program when he read about Dan Pink’s book, “A Whole New Mind,” which popularized the notion that artists, especially those who can marry left and right brain skills, the analytical and the creative, will be in high demand in the coming years.

“I am committed to destroying the myth of the starving artist,” Mr. Thompson said.

I’ll buy the book, first thing tomorrow – as I’ll also be going over to the Metropolitan to see a few shows and have lunch with a friend.

There’s also a new book by Dan Pink out that my friend Valeria Maltoni reviewed recently - I have to check it out

“Zones of Conflict” curated by T.J. Demos at Pratt Manhattan Gallery

I spent some time at the Zones of Conflict opening at Pratt Manhattan tonight, after attending a Tweetup at the Perfect Pint on W. 45th Street.

I like some of the work though I felt social protest art should also have design fundamentals that enhance the message – in fact, I captured much of my thinking on a video that I posted to YouTube, that you can see, here.
